Half term … again?

Yes, that’s right, folks.

We are barely back into a routine following Christmas and New Year … and the February school break is just around the corner.

Don’t worry, though, as we have some great suggestions for half term happiness!

Here at the Riviera, we think February is a fabulous month. The daylight hours last for longer, and the lengthy month of January is behind us for another year – hurrah!

Snowdrops and late winter flowers are making an appearance.

And, dare we say it, Spring doesn’t seem too far away …

So, what can you do to keep all the gang entertained once the schools have shut their doors for a week?

Well, as usual, Whitby is geared up for a busy month.

It is worth knowing that Whitby Abbey, cared for by English Heritage, although usually open for February’s half term ‘vacation’, will not be open to the public this month.

Essential maintenance works are being carried out at this famous landmark, and it won’t be open until March 2019.

We hope all the works go well for this spectacular historic attraction.
Whitby Pavilion will host events in case the weather isn’t the best, including big screen entertainment.

Films include 'Mary Queen of Scots' and 'The Favourite'.

And of course February can’t really take place in Whitby without the Steampunk Weekend on the 9th and 10th.

This incredible event is a treat for the eyes and ears with the most lavish costumes imaginable.

Then, if you want to spend some quality time with your loved one, then there’s a Valentine’s Dinner on the Endeavour Experience on Thursday 14th February.
If you wanted to explore the wonderful coastline, head down to Ravenscar on 17th February where you can build a bird box at the Visitor Centre.

And if you love exploring starry skies, the Dark Skies Festival take place from 15th February to 3rd March inclusive across the North York Moors National Park. This stellar festival is marking the 50th anniversary year of the Moon Landing and is hosting an incredible line up of night sky events, including star gazing at Dalby Forest, a screening of the film 'Saving the Dark' and much more.

If you head down to Scarborough on 22nd, 23rd or 24th February, then you’re in for a treat, as Coastival will be getting the heart pumping with its varied and events programme, taking place at various venues throughout the seaside resort.

We hope you enjoy your half term break, the first school holiday of the year and one we’ll also be enjoying here at the Riviera Guesthouse!

(Please note, ticket prices may apply. Check the events are taking place before you travel).
