There’s never a better place to be than Whitby during the festive season.

The spectacular sunsets; Jack Frost nipping at your nose; sparkling lights and of course the chance that Santa Clause himself will be coming down the chimney!

The fun of Christmas is captured by a number of events that take place in the run up to December the 25th.

We’ve had our annual Whitby Christmas Festival and if you read our previous blog, you know this event kicks off all things Christmassy in the town.

However if you missed that, or if you feel this is only the beginning of this fun time of year, then you won’t be disappointed!

Whitby’s Winterfest take place on 1st and 2nd December. A real community event, this is its third ‘outing’ and is FREE!

Always a welcome word at this time of year, particularly when purse strings can be under pressure.

The event takes place in the Northern Lights Suite of the Whitby Pavilion from 10am to 6pm and includes a wide variety of traders selling local food, crafts, artwork and so much more.

There is also an exciting programme of live entertainment from local groups and performers on the main stage that also has a seating area if you need a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle.

And Santa – he’s a busy chap! – will be there with his Grotto, which is great for the kids.
Another of Whitby’s festive traditions is Whitby Krampus taking place on 1st December.

This is its the fourth annual parade and is an incredible costumed event with St Nicholas and his dark and dastardly counterpart, Krampus, both walking the streets of the town.

Their companions, known as Elders, search the streets for ne’er do wells, and the event is lively with the sights, sounds and smells of Krampus and his winter friends. So if you’ve been naughty and maybe not always nice, then you better watch out!

The parade takes place in Church Street, from 3.30pm.
If you love the experience of steam trains, then Whitby again is blessed with the bright and beautiful locomotives of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

Their Santa Specials take place on various dates from 1st to 23rd December. This much-loved annual event includes meeting Santa and his helpers, listening to a Christmas story, along with some tasty refreshments and more.

And of course, Christmas would not be Christmas without some great films! Whitby Pavilion has its own digital cinema showing all the latest releases. There’s nothing better than relaxing after all that Christmas shopping with an afternoon at the movies.

Of course, all the above is really the run up to Christmas Day and however you celebrate it, we’d like to thank all our customers and readers of this blog for their support this year. We hope that Santa brings you what you want for Christmas and everyone eats some great food and enjoys a drink or two. We always look forward to the festive time of year, particularly as we have two young children who can barely contain their excitement.

Merry Christmas and while we remember, we wish you a happy New Year too.
