August means several important things for us … it’s the height of the holiday season; the kids are off school; and Trip Advisor hand out their ‘Certificates of Excellence’.

So let’s recap … we’re in one of the loveliest places in the UK (Whitby) – tick! We’re a family-run business – tick! We have regular and new guests come stay with us – tick and tick!

Aside from our freshly-cooked breakfasts, crisp bed linen, beautifully decorated rooms (many with sea views) and of course our easy-to-use website, we’re also reliant on one other aspect … reviews, and, finger’s crossed, good ones at that!

As a famous chef once said: “Everyone’s a critic,” and this is so right. In years gone by, if someone wasn’t happy with a product or service, they could put pen to paper and then vote with their feet.

Today, it’s never been easier to voice your opinion online. And we’re so grateful, not to mention thankful that some of our amazing guests take the time and trouble to leave a review on Trip Advisor, Google or Facebook.

Naturally, the nerves kick in when we get a notification about a new review, particularly as reviewers can go into great detail. We understand you can’t please all of the people all of the time, yet thankfully, our reviews are, in the main, ‘Excellent’.
So when Trip Advisor gave us our Certificate of Excellence for 2018, we were delighted and we can’t thank YOU, our guests, enough.

Trip Advisor itself is 18 years of age this year, ‘born’ in the year 2000 in the US of A. Fast forward nearly two decades, and it has an estimated 315 million reviewers. This just shows how a relatively simple idea can really ‘take off’.

We have blogged previously about this subject and while we don’t want to repeat ourselves, we know that review websites are a doubled-edged sword.
Yet all feedback and reviews are responded to quickly and in-depth, which we hope speaks volumes about how dedicated we are to our family-run guesthouse.
Like many local businesses, we gain and maintain some of our custom by these reviews, so if you’ve been kind enough to take time to write about us, we thank you!

We’ll display the Trip Advisor sticker in a prominent position by way of thanking our guests, and also to show that we do listen to our customers.

Like many commercial concerns in Whitby, we work hard and always look forward to seeing our guests who come for a well-earned rest in our lovely town.
