We can’t believe it’s a year since the last fantastic Whitby Regatta!
This year’s dates are Saturday 10th, Sunday 11th and Monday 12th August.
Where has the year gone?
We know it’s the height of summer when the Regatta takes place.
Each year, this busy and vibrant event celebrates Whitby’s maritime connections with a jaw-dropping array of activities, events and entertainment.
Please note these details are correct at time of publication.
Highlights include yacht racing, rowing and a spectacular firework display.
Be prepared for a packed weekend both in terms of entertainment and, let’s be honest, there will be pressure on the car parking!
There will be queues! There will be packed streets! And there will be the best atmosphere around.
Events that are due to take place during the Regatta include ...
Rowing races each day.
The famous and very competitive Raft Race takes place on Saturday.
The Greasy Pole competition also takes place on Saturday and is a joy to watch!
Look to the skies for the amazing, thunderously noisy and spine tingling Royal Air Force Typhoon Display on Saturday and Sunday – this alone is worth seeing, in our opinion.
The power, noise and thrust of this aircraft are second to none.
The RAF static aircraft displays will be in place throughout the event in the town.
And if you love looking at the skies, the Wildcat Aerobatic Team will provide an air show that you’ll never forget on Sunday, visible from the West Cliff.
Wings of a different kind with the North Yorkshire Moors Birds of Prey display in the Crescent Gardens, including wonderful owls, awesome eagles, amazing hawks and fantastic falcons.
The Lidl Whitby Regatta 4k Fun Run on Sunday, a chance for the participants to stretch their legs!
The Classic Car Rally takes place on Sunday, a must for petrol heads.
Children’s activities run every day throughout the Regatta, keeping the little ones out of mischief.
The Regatta’s Craft Fair will be located in Archery Green from 10am to 5.30pm daily.
Whitby Dog Show and live music will also be ‘in place’ throughout the Regatta.
If you prefer getting about on two wheels, then the Motor Cycles and Quads Gymkhana takes place on Sunday.
It will be a case of being a marvellous Monday with the Grand Parade making its way through the town featuring incredible floats and colourful displays.
We couldn’t have a Whitby event without some reference to its gothic past! Dr Phantasma’s Amazing Sideshow is on the town’s historic West Cliff throughout the event. Prepare to be wowed by the Fire King, Miss Elastina, Romana and the Ladder of Swords and much more.
Then for a touch of magic, Van Buren’s Magic Show and Circus Workshop is also the place to be, again on West Cliff throughout the event.
Entitled ‘Van Buren Magic Illusion Spectacular’ the performer will make your eyes pop with excitement as they conjure up magic, illusions, juggling, comedy, escapology and lots of other surprises. We can’t wait!
If you love sport then the Whitby Regatta Comic Football Match, a legendary aspect of this event, takes place on the Monday on Whitby’s main beach.
This year’s event plays for the Snowball Cup and see the Burberry’s Factor Girls versus the Fleece Old Boys in this soccer showdown.
The firework display takes place on Monday 12th August at 9.45pm and forms the grand finale to this year’s Whitby Regatta.
To be honest, we’re exhausted at the thought of it.
The planning that goes into this fabulous event is mind-boggling and we really want to thank everyone involved.
The Regatta really helps bring people into Whitby, show off its maritime past and create a fantastic atmosphere.
Until next year …
