WHITBY
Whitby is a popular British seaside resort situated within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. It is surrounded by some of the most delightful coastline and countryside in the UK. Whitby is the perfect destination for a wide variety of guests, it has something to offer to everyone. Whether you are interested in discovering the historic town, its busy harbour and sandy beach or whether you wish to spend you days trekking along the green trails through the North Yorkshire Moors or maybe you just wish for a break-away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.
Based at the mouth of the river Esk, Whitby has a strong history of shipbuilding and whaling, and the harbour has always been a central point of Whitby. The town quickly grew around it. Today, with links to Europe, especially Scandinavian countries, the harbour is still a busy working environment, and is popular with fishing boats bringing fresh fish daily to the area. Whitby boasts many exciting events throughout the year, including Regatta, Folk Week, 60’s & 70’s festivals, Northern Soul, Rock ’n’ Roll festivals and the bi-annual Gothic weekend, among many others. There is an extensive list of sights, activities and tourist attractions to fill your day in Whitby. The town itself is also full of unique, fascinating shops, galleries and cafés.
